Project Description:
The existing Brown's River Covered Bridge, built in 1837, served until 1965 when it was bypassed and abandoned. Some repairs were performed in 1975. In 1987, once again in bad shape, the bridge was removed from its foundations and set on cribbing in a nearby field. Repair work was started, but funds were exhausted prior to the completion of the work. It sat awaiting additional funding to finish the project which was finally obtained and the work completed and bridge relocated to its former site in 2001. The bridge serves only pedestrian traffic.
The assignment, hampered by very limited funding, included field inspection, identification of necessary repairs, design of the repairs, and development of contract technical specifications and limited drawings. Construction consultation by phone and field visits enabled guidance to the contractor once more detail of actual field conditions was determined.
