Project Description:

The Mill Covered Bridge, originally built 1883, was unfortunately destroyed by ice in 1999. The Town of Tunbridge was committed to replacing the 70-foot long bridge in-kind.

The replacement structure was to have a vehicular capacity of 15 tons. Neil H. Daniels was selected as the Contractor to build the replacement. Phil Pierce was selected as the engineer with the task to replicate the original Multiple King Post truss bridge, to the extent possible.

Use of local hemlock was investigated, but found to be unable to provide satisfactory strength in accordance with modern specifications. Douglas fir sawn members were ultimately used.

Bridge replacement was completed in 2000.
