Fuller Covered Bridge

Owner:
The Town of Montgomery, Vermont

Contractor and Client (Design-Build):
Blow & Cote, Inc.
Morrisville, VT

Specialty Subconsulting Engineer:
Phillip C. Pierce, P.E.
Treadwell, NY

Project Description:

The existing Fuller Covered Bridge, built in 1890, had been closed since major damage from flooding in 1997. The assignment included design of the replacement floor system for H20 live loading and preparation of plans to record component replacement in the trusses.

Most of the members of the Town Lattice trusses had to be replaced, using sawn Southern Pine timber. Engineering design of the truss member replacement was not necessary due to the relatively short structure (50 feet), since earlier evaluations had demonstrated that the trusses had ample strength, when in good condition.

Work was completed in 2000.
