Project Description:
The Power House Covered Bridge, originally built in 1870, collapsed from snow load in 2001. The single-span bridge was supported by queenpost trusses, approximately 70 feet long. An independent steel beam supported floor had been installed in 1995. The collapse of the covered bridge "shell" did not damage the floor structure.
A replica covered bridge shell was selected to be rebuilt over the independent floor, using authentic details. The assignment included design and preparation of drawings for the replica covered bridge, sans floor system. Since the covered portion of the bridge must support snow load, the members are nearly as large as would be necessary to support live load too.
Work was completed in 2002.
