Mill Bridge Ox Team

As a recognized covered bridge specialist, I have undertaken projects ranging from a Covered Bridge Manual for use by the Federal Government to private bridge rehabilitation projects.

Investigation

Bridge Investigations are where I am called upon to view the bridge, document repairs needed, determine the structure's maximum weight carrying ability and prepare drawings and documents to direct a contractor who will perform the actual repair

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation refers to the actual work on a structure by a contractor. A rehab involves replacement or repair of some elements but not most, and maybe work on the foundations. This must be distinguished from a Restoration which repairs only the damaged portions of elements and retains most all of the original elements. Reconstruction is between these two types of construction. Almost all of my work has been rehabilitation.

Resiting

Resitting involved moving a bridge back to its river setting. It had been pulled off of its abutments and moved to a lot many years earlier for repair work, but had never been put back.

Replacement

A replacement project should refer to construction of a "replica" - i.e., the original bridge was beyond help and had to be destroyed or was destroyed by arson or flood/ice damage. The new bridge was built to appear very similar, albeit some work may have been different for more safety or strength.
