I started dreaming about starting my own firm a few years after leaving college and joining a well-known national engineering firm specializing in bridges - Modjeski and Masters. I found the bridges (and fairly extensive involvement with some large timber-framed buildings built during World War II) to be fascinating and thought there could be room for another specialty firm.

Over the years my interest in starting my own firm grew and then waned when confronted with the reality of going it alone. At one point in time; I had developed a business plan with another engineer that seemed great, but just never followed through.

When I joined the Delaware County Department of Public Works, my long-time dream was finally realized and I was able to start the specialty consulting engineering practice of Phillip Pierce, in the fall of 1999.

I am enjoying the work with the County and believe I am offering some good support for them. My consulting work goes on around that commitment. Fortunately, my schedule can be quite flexible and offers me time to accept challenges.
