Hello! Thanks for checking my homepage. This page is intended to provide diverse information about my consulting practice and Covered Bridges in general.
My background and experience is somewhat varied regarding covered bridges. I have a "day job" - as Deputy Commissioner of Public Works for Delaware County, New York. In this role, I am responsible for about 300 bridges (including 3 covered bridges) and about 300 miles of road. We have recently completed a major rehabilitation of each of the three covered bridges.
I also operate a consulting practice on the side that primarily focuses on covered bridges. I have a variety of experience including; specialty subconsulting service for the site inspection, analysis, and identification of recommended rehabilitation actions for the Comstock Bridge at East Hampton, Connecticut, refined computerized analysis of the Bartonsville Covered Bridge, preparation of contract plans and specifications for the relocation of the Westford Covered Bridge, and engineering assistance for the rehabilitation of the Fuller Covered Bridge in Vermont.
In addition to my engineering work, I prepare and make presentations about covered bridges to various conferences and groups.
As an expert in Covered Bridges, I am especially proud of having organized a consulting team that was selected by the Federal Highway Administration to prepare a Covered Bridge Manual as part of a new research project.
This site would not be up and running without the efforts of several others - for which I offer special recognition:
- C.J. Maby, a close friend, is a Senior CADD Designer at McFarland-Johnson, Inc., Binghamton, New York was the originator of the initial version of this home page. Chris turned a lot of my word processing documents into the "meat" of this site. Without his diligent and persistent help, it wouldn't be up today,
- Craig Houck ,working with Spectra.Net of Binghamton at the time, offered additional help with some new features,
- Ken Sarzynski (a computer whiz son-in-law) has offered much assistance for a long time and his patience has been much tested,
- Peter Brayman has reorganized and updated the site as it exists today.
The help from all is greatly appreciated.
